Alconbury Weald is located on a former RAF airfield and this 1,400-acre area will provide 5,000 homes, business space, green spaces, new schools and more. Alconbury Weald has already established itself as a vibrant destination of high quality homes, beautiful natural landscaping and inspiring civic buildings set in the heart of Huntingdonshire between Cambridge, Peterborough, Bedford and Northampton.
Strategy
Alconbury Weald has a fascinating history alongside its most recent past as a former RAF airfield, with Iron Age discoveries and links to the Romans and their strategic trade routes and aristocratic families with their manors and moats! These links to the past have influenced the design today and provide a unique opportunity for story telling.
In the UK, 12.5% of us (about 7.1 million people) listen to podcasts weekly, up 58% in the past two years and this trend is set to continue. Podcasts can bring stories to life and if delivered well, provide a valuable engagement tool. With the additional challenges faced in the Summer of 2020, with events having to be postponed, we knew that podcasts could help to bridge the gap as part of the wider communications strategy.
We developed the concept for two initial episodes for the brand new podcast series, Alconbury Weald Stories – working closely with our podcast production partner. Both episodes included members of the local community and key partners from Archaeologists, Ecologists to Landscape Architects. Our approach had to speak to multiple audiences.
Episode 1 – Wild Weald, follows TV presenter Mike Dilger, as he went on an exploration through the green corridors, to a new Country Park and the dynamic wider landscapes of Alconbury Weald. Episode 2 – Weald Origins is narrated by archaeologist and TV presenter Raksha Dave, and explores the rich and varied Weald Origins.
