Challenge
Waterbeach features a 23-acre lake and biodiversity net gain targets across five habitat areas, showcasing hero species like kingfishers and nationally scarce pondskaters. The first phase of development includes a sustainable travel hub, play spaces, extensive walking and cycling routes, a school and pre-school, a local center with shops and a café, a pop-up space for lake-side events, and new energy-efficient homes.
We were asked to support the Communities and Partnerships team with a digital strategy and experiences designed to adapt and grow alongside Waterbeach.
Strategy
We collaborated with key stakeholders, including community members, Landscape Architects, Ecologists, and website partners. Our process began with defining the development objectives and creating personas to represent key audiences. This informed our social media and digital strategy.
Our goal is to align the digital strategy and marketing experiences, with an accessible and sustainable approach to content and channels. We focused on key themes: heritage, education, biodiversity net gain, health and wellbeing, travel, and new homes.
It’s essential for the new community to access information that supports active and sustainable lifestyle choices. This ranges from participating in local nature conservation to making informed travel choices that enhance health, wellbeing, and reduce carbon emissions.
Results
We support social media implementation, including organic and paid strategies, to attract new audiences to Waterbeach. Collaborating closely with website partners and the Communities and Partnerships team, we aim to achieve low-carbon website design.
A carbon calculator tool is one example of how we are elevating the sustainable goals of the development, and supporting the community at Waterbeach to explore sustainable transport options. This tool helps illustrate how switching to eco-friendly travel can reduce carbon impact, promoting behaviour change as the infrastructure and community grow.
